Meeting people in person makes a world of difference and is extrrrrreeeemely important which is why I work to coordinate meetings, meet with other organizations and encourage others to do the same. But, if you can or can't meet, what we need is a strong core group. Not people who complain but, take action and don't wait for orders from "leaders" and don't boss people around but, are looking to learn from one another and teach others. A little complaining is cool but, a lot of it is just a waste of energy. Take action in addressing what makes you uncomfortable when you can.

I feel a lot of the conventional activism people do is great but, is not always as effective in reaching the masses as the net is hence, our global site, the movie which started it all, our online coordination of events etc. And all this yelling and screaming activism started at a time when the internet did not exist. I feel most people are stuck in traditional habits and often want to express there anger by yelling and creating hysteria or fear and I'm with you on that but, it has its place. In my opinion creative mediums are better for me to express that and are other effective platforms of reaching the masses in seconds with the net. Keep the outreach mixed, whether it be music, art, cookbooks, everyday conversations, technology, comedy, fun social outings, conventional activism, theater whateverrrrrr...find what people have a yearning for and fill gap, make a connection with others and connect people with each other.

Peter Joseph said he doesn't really want to be recognized as "our leader" although people keep looking for that I think because people have that fan mentality or have not found direction to be more autonomous when its needed. When I meet people sometimes they ask about Peter or Diego (the NY site administrator) and my response is don't worry about what they are doing, they'll come around if they wish and if they don't its their choice, as it is yours should you choose to continue or not. If you want to push this, you can...you may even do it better or not, ----> it all counts.

So who's ready to start working to their capacity, even if its once a week, for an hour daily, or once a month ----> it all counts. People have given us great resources like this website and still people complain. Change your perspectives and appreciate yourself and what your contributions can be with the resources that have been established and relationships that can be strengthened, a sound community weather its it this movement or another.

Remember that we are the movement, if you want to see a world with people who are critical thinkers, are patient with each other and are more collaborative and care about the well being of others and the environment, start with yourself. Kinetic energy generator - Researchers at the University of Southampton have developed a kinetic energy generator which derives electrical energy from the vibrations and movements that occur within its environment. Developed by Dr Steve Beeby and his team at the University's School of Electronics & Computer Science (ECS), the tiny generator (less than 1 cubic cm in size) is 10 times more powerful than anything yet developed in the field and could form the basis of technology for self-powered pace makers and other embedded applications that require periodic replacement of batteries. The generator produces electrical energy using an arrangement of four magnets on a cantilever with a wound coil located in the magnetic field. The magnet size and coil properties are designed to produce energy from low vibration levels and the device has been shown to convert 30% of the power supplied from the environment into useful electrical power.

Stirling Engines - The Stirling engine is a heat engine that is vastly different from the internal-combustion engine in your car. Invented by Robert Stirling in 1816, the Stirling engine has the potential to be much more efficient than a gasoline or diesel engine. But today, Stirling engines are used only in some very specialized applications, like in submarines or auxiliary power generators for yachts, where quiet operation is important. Although there hasn't been a successful mass-market application for the Stirling engine, some very high-power inventors are working on it.

A Stirling engine uses the Stirling cycle, which is unlike the cycles used in internal-combustion engines.

The gasses used inside a Stirling engine never leave the engine. There are no exhaust valves that vent high-pressure gasses, as in a gasoline or diesel engine, and there are no explosions taking place. Because of this, Stirling engines are very quiet.
The Stirling cycle uses an external heat source, which could be anything from gasoline to solar energy to the heat produced by decaying plants. No combustion takes place inside the cylinders of the engine.

There are hundreds of ways to put together a Stirling engine.

Radio Wave-Powered Cell Phone

Solar-powered cell phone prototypes and rumors abound, but Nokia has a battery-less alternative power source for our cell phones lined up: radio waves. The company told MIT's Technology Review that it is working on technology to suck up enough power from ambient radio waves emitted by Wi-Fi transmitters, cell phone antennas, and television masts to keep a cell phone charged.

Solar Panels With Nanoantennas

Conventional solar panels have only 40 percent efficiency, meaning they can only convert 40 percent of the total solar energy they receive into usable electricity. More recently, however, a new variant of solar panel with 80 percent efficiency is being developed. This solar panel is designed to work even after sunset. In this new technology, solar energy is harnessed by using nanoantennas i.e. the square spirals of conducting metal embedded into a sheet of plastic which can be easily folded. The earth absorbs the infrared energy of the Sun and releases it after sunset. The new solar panels absorb this infrared energy released by the Earth at night and direct energy from the sun during the day. Thus they harness energy during the day as well as at night. At a size of 1/25th of the human hair diameter, they are very small, but when it comes to efficiency, they overshadow their conventional counterparts with immense ease.

Scientists at the University of Wisconsin-Madison may have discovered a new, somewhat strange way to efficiently produce hydrogen fuel without the need for "dirty" catalysts like oil.

The new ingredients: water submersion and noise pollution.

The team has made piezoelectric crystals of zinc oxide that, when immersed in water, absorb vibrations and develop areas of strong negative and positive charge. These charges rip apart nearby water molecules, releasing hydrogen and oxygen gas.

"This is like a free lunch," says lead researcher Huifang Xu. "You are getting energy from the environment just like solar cells capture energy from the sun.

Harnessing sound power - You know how everyone's talking about using solar panels and wind turbines to Go Green. While thats good and all, those aren't the only sources of renewable energy; there's another one that is almost never used: sound. Although it does take a fair amount of noise to generate a descent amount of electricity, but if you think about it, say you harness all the noise from a football game or the hustel and bustel of a large city, by the end of the day you have a lot of power, and some stranger unknowingly will have given you free electricity.

Self-propellant vehicles - had been in the offing since late 1700s in Europe, and by the middle of 1800, engineers had come out with models that ran on steam, combustion as well as electrical energy. While the steam powered cars lasted only till the 1920s, and production of electric cars too ceased beyond the first decade of the twentieth century, combustion engines caught on and underwent development at various stages, to contribute to the progress of the automobile industry.

Engineair - The Di Pietro motor concept is based on a rotary piston. Different from existing rotary engines, the Di Pietro motor uses a simple cylindrical rotary piston (shaft driver) which rolls, without any friction, inside the cylindrical stator. The space between stator and rotor is divided in 6 expansion chambers by pivoting dividers. These dividers follow the motion of the shaft driver as it rolls around the stator wall. The motor shown is effectively a 6 cylinder expansion motor.

MDI Air Car - India's largest automaker is set to start producing the world's first commercial air-powered vehicle. The Air Car, developed by ex-Formula One engineer Guy NÃ¨gre for Luxembourg-based MDI, uses compressed air, as opposed to the gas-and-oxygen explosions of internal-combustion models, to push its engine's pistons. Some 6000 zero-emissions Air Cars are scheduled to hit Indian streets in August of 2008.

I can see why doing fund raisers for benevolent causes can give people a wonderful feeling and is a wonderful idea in the intention but, there is something terribly wrong happening here.

Look at the total health spending and compare that to the new cases of breast cancer in the US. Also compare that to the Asian countries on the left. Although this problem has several factors that go unexplored in this example, I hope you can see the value in what this shows.

Cows on Drugs

NOW that Congress has pushed through its complicated legislation to reform the health insurance system, it could take one more simple step to protect the health of all Americans. This one wouldn’t raise any taxes or make any further changes to our health insurance system, so it could be quickly passed by Congress with an outpouring of bipartisan support. Or could it?

More than 30 years ago, when I was commissioner of the United States Food and Drug Administration, we proposed eliminating the use of penicillin and two other antibiotics to promote growth in animals raised for food. When agribusiness interests persuaded Congress not to approve that regulation, we saw firsthand how strong politics can trump wise policy and good science.

Even back then, this nontherapeutic use of antibiotics was being linked to the evolution of antibiotic resistance in bacteria that infect humans. To the leading microbiologists on the F.D.A.’s advisory committee, it was clearly a very bad idea to fatten animals with the same antibiotics used to treat people. But the American Meat Institute and its lobbyists in Washington blocked the F.D.A. proposal.

In 2005, one class of antibiotics, fluoroquinolones, was banned in the production of poultry in the United States. But the total number of antibiotics used in agriculture is continuing to grow. According to the Union of Concerned Scientists, 70 percent of this use is in animals that are healthy but are vulnerable to transmissible diseases because they live in crowded and unsanitary conditions.

In testimony to Congress last summer, Joshua Sharfstein, the principal deputy commissioner of the F.D.A., estimated that 90,000 Americans die each year from bacterial infections they acquire in hospitals. About 70 percent of those infections are caused by bacteria that are resistant to at least one powerful antibiotic.

That’s why the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Pharmacists Association, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the American Public Health Association and the National Association of County and City Health Officials are urging Congress to phase out the nontherapeutic use in livestock of antibiotics that are important to humans.

Antibiotic resistance is an expensive problem. A person who cannot be treated with ordinary antibiotics is at risk of having a large number of bacterial infections, and of needing to be treated in the hospital for weeks or even months. The extra costs to the American health care system are as much as $26 billion a year, according to estimates by Cook County Hospital in Chicago and the Alliance for the Prudent Use of Antibiotics, a health policy advocacy group.

Agribusiness argues — as it has for 30 years — that livestock need to be given antibiotics to help them grow properly and keep them free of disease. But consider what has happened in Denmark since the late 1990s, when that country banned the use of antibiotics in farm animals except for therapeutic purposes. The reservoir of resistant bacteria in Danish livestock shrank considerably, a World Health Organization report found. And although some animals lost weight, and some developed infections that needed to be treated with antimicrobial drugs, the benefits of the rule exceeded those costs.

It’s 30 years late, but Congress should now pass the Preservation of Antibiotics for Medical Treatment Act, which would ban industrial farms from using seven classes of antibiotics that are important to human health unless animals or herds are ill, or pharmaceutical companies can prove the drugs’ use in livestock does not harm human health.

The pharmaceutical industry and agribusiness face the difficult challenge of developing antimicrobials that work specifically against animal infections without undermining the fight against bacteria that cause disease in humans. But we don’t have the luxury of waiting any longer to protect those at risk of increasing antibiotic resistance.

What a sad truth, as Jacque Fresco says, politicians are good at telling you what you want to hear to get elected. How does it go again...oh yeah... bombing for peace is like #$%^!?"%$#@&*!!! for virginity. Politicians are outdated, what we need is everyday citizens to come together, step up their game and stop waiting for a hero or, for some, a messiah to save us. Your country...no wait, let me start over...your planet needs you! Its about making real change for all, not just you and man made borders, that's whats keeping us divided.

Thats why we need to work our way into not supporting companies like General Electric. They are responsible for creating destructive weapons of war and are now at the forefront of the green movement here in the US. Give me a break. Its complete #$%^!?"%$#@&*!!! Lets make bombs and promote global warming afterwards...yeah I'm sure you profit driven miserable folks care about our planet. Pushing energy efficient mercury bulbs, thats the answer...really? They are not trying to be green, the only thing they are trying to sustain is an outdated power grid and making sure you don't get motivated enough to figure out how to live off of the system and discover a truly sustainable paradigm out of a profit driven system. We lock people up for petty crimes and don't really make effort to solve crime but, we certainly demonize convenient problems, create more and more prisons and then sugar coat useless/counterproductive/destructive actions by stating that we are creating jobs and protecting our economy. Its saddening to meet so many good people, be such passionate proponents of regressive convention. People who are responsible for genocide (not just of human life) weather through economic or technological 'advances' get to walk around and get praised for innovative business practices. And don't think for a sec this is just limited to corporations - some religious, governmental, educational, financial, watchdog groups, are all in the mix.
